Angels and Ghosts

Well, yesterday I got the 4 ZL angels and the Black Ghost Knife fish, probably only hours after they came into the shop. These will probably be the last new fish for a while now, with the possible exception of the whiptail. The tank probably has as much fish as it can easily take tho.


The angels are still settling in, they mostly all stay together. But recently, they've been swimming around some more.


The little BGK 'Poe' swimming outside of his daytime home, the cave. For a nocturnal fish, he sure swims around in the day a lot...


He swims using only his long anal fin, no use of the tail. Apparently it's because the electric field BGKs use to navigate gets distorted if they bend around too much, so it's easier to sense their surroundings if they stay straight.


Because they only use their long anal fin to swim means they are often moving around backwards, upside down, vertically, or any combination of the above. This makes for an extremely entertaining fish to watch!


As I said, fun to watch!


And the tank as it is now. If you compare this picture with one of the older planted pictures, you'll notice all the plants have definitely grown, but the stalk the red amazon has sent out hasn't. I may trim it off, and see if it'll grow a new one.

Hatchets

Visited Jem Aquatics again yesterday, and they had got their next batch of fish in, but still no BGKs or angels! They had ordered them, but the supplier didn't have any healthy stock. Try again next week... But, I did see an interesting fish, one I hadn't seen before at Jem Aquatics, the Marbled Hatchet fish! I got 3 of them right then, before they sold out!







This morning, the female ram was no-where to be seen. Nothing was found after extensive searching. She was never very active, so it wasn't really unexpected.

New fish!

So I went to Jem Aquatics today, now that they have reopened, hoping to buy one of the 3-4 small black ghost knife fish they had the last time I was there, along with ether the angels if they had them, or some rams. But when we got there, they only had one little BGK left. So after waiting a few minutes for someone to finish with their customers and serve us, we got a Java Fern, and picked out a nice looking pair of little Rams. Then we asked for the last little BGK, so they got out the bag, the ladder, and the net, and started looking around the tank, in all the holes in the wood, but he was gone! He was sold in the 5 minutes between finding him, and trying to catch him! Good day for the shop... But, they will have a new shipment of fish coming in tomorrow, so hopefully, by the end of this weel, I'll have the angels and a BGK!

Anyway, here's the pics:

The male ram, an excellent specimen, such brilliant colours! I think he's called Cid... Don't ask me why.

The female Ram. Very darkly coloured, and un-named at time of writing.


Both rams, for scale. They are both still quite little.


And the Java Fern, on the wood. Should help hide the filter intake, and also shade the area around the cave.


The java fern from the side. You can see I've weighed it down with paperclips, until it takes root on to the wood.

Well, hopefully I'll post some pictures of even more new fish by the end of this week... Hopefully the little angels won't bother the rams too much, but I'll set up a spare 60cm tank, just in case...

Corys in a plant!

Sniffing around under leaves, they sometimes end up upside down! You can also see the water cabbage has grown a lot.


Corys are by no means a strictly a lower-lever fish!


All I can say about this picture is 'they have little flags!'



I've rearranged the plants a little, but the water cabbage kept growing after the move, so it's all good.
